Back in 2020, we launched Amnezia Self-hosted for those who value security and privacy. Since then, the Amnezia ecosystem has grown into several services tailored for different tasks. All our products operate through an open-source client. We also adhere to a no-logs policy, undergo independent security audits, and use our proprietary AmneziaWG protocol with XRay Reality support to ensure stable performance even in countries with strict internet censorship.
In this article, we cover the core of each service in detail to help you navigate them and choose the right option.
Amnezia Free — The Absolute Minimum
For Whom
The optimal choice if you need free and secure access to social networks, independent media, and other popular resources. Amnezia Free will help you stay in touch with the world if you plan on travelling to countries where familiar resources are unavailable and secure the data on public networks.
It is also a good test drive if you have not used a VPN before. It works immediately after installation and requires no registration.
How It Works
We created Amnezia Free for regions with high levels of internet censorship, where conventional VPNs are often blocked or unavailable due to payment and service distribution restrictions.
In Russia, Iran, Myanmar, Türkiye, and Vietnam, the VPN activates only for blocked websites and applications: social networks, independent media, messengers, and other socially significant resources. We compiled these proxy lists together with local human rights defenders and digital activists.
In countries of Latin America, Africa, and parts of Southeast Asia, Amnezia Free provides access to any website via VPN with a speed limit of up to 500 Kbps. This is enough for basic tasks backed up by a secure connection.
What Makes It Stand Out
- User traffic is masked as a single location chosen at random. You will not be able to specify the country through which the connection goes. The same applies to the protocol.
- We often have to update IP addresses: censors identify them by the number of connected users and block them. However, we are always one step ahead.
How to Use
- Download the Amnezia VPN app.
- Connect via client.

Amnezia Premium — Limitless Internet
For Whom
A service for those who value access to any resources without restrictions, the ability to choose a location, and high speed. A logical next step for users who have realized the value of a VPN service.
What It Can Do
Amnezia Premium provides unlimited traffic at speeds up to 200 Mbps at 20 locations around the world: from the US and Canada to Australia and Japan.
This variety, in addition to expected benefits like bypassing blocks in a specific country, offers surprising advantages. For example, music libraries in streaming services like Spotify vary from region to region — subscribers in the US have access to more tracks than music fans in Türkiye. At the same time, services cross-reference the registration region with your location — Amnezia Premium will “land” you wherever you need.
The following are available to Amnezia Premium users:
- The VLESS protocol, combined with masking as QUIC, DNSDomain Name System, and HTTPS requests, hides the connection from advanced DPIDeep Packet Inspection systems and reduces the number of disruptions.
- Split tunneling — directs traffic from specific applications and websites through dedicated channels. This guarantees data protection — for example, banking, medical or corporate data — on public networks.
A single subscription allows you to connect up to seven devices. You can manage them through the Personal Dashboard, where configuration files for setting up the VPN client on a router are also available.
How to Install
- Download the Amnezia VPN app.
- Pay for the subscription with a credit card or cryptocurrency. A year of Amnezia Premium access will cost $48, — or $28 for six months.
- Set up the connection by following the guide.
If the AmneziaVPN app is unavailable in your regional App Store, you can use Amnezia Premium keys in the Default VPN app.
You can also install Amnezia Premium on a router to connect more third-party devices — for example, a TV or a gaming console — and give your family access to their favorite websites.

Amnezia Self-Hosted — Your Personal VPN Server
For Whom
A personal VPN on a dedicated server is suitable for those who want to control every aspect of their network and share access with their loved ones.
Amnezia VPN started with Self-hosted; most of the time, we test experimental developments and new features within it. This means that the Self-hosted users gain early access to cutting-edge privacy tools, such as the AmneziaWG 2.0 protocol.
What It Can Do
In Amnezia Self-hosted, you alone own the server and the IP addresses bound to it. This allows you to configure the connection to suit your tasks and the level of privacy and security you’re aiming for.
Free You From Limits
Within Amnezia Self-hosted, speed and traffic volumes are determined solely by the capabilities of the VPSVirtual Private Server, not the VPN provider.
Maintain Anonymity
Don't trust the claims of commercial VPNs about the absence of logs? Even ours? None taken — fortunately, within Self-hosted, you manage traffic processing and can ensure that all processes run in the server's RAM. The hosting provider's servers will not reveal your engagement with it, even if authorities gain access to them.
In addition, Amnezia Self-hosted allows you to:
- Create your own website in the Tor network and use it as a secure repository or a secret communication channel.
- Set up private SOCKS5 and DNS servers to avoid surveillance at the ISPInternet Service Provider level and remain independent of private VPN service hosters.
In short: cloud storage, a personal secure tunnel, and masking from your ISP — all in one service.
Withstand IP Blocks
Compared to commercial VPNs, Amnezia Self-hosted runs on “clean” IPs. This virtually guarantees resilience against blocks by Google or Cloudflare, which often restrict access for subscribers of paid solutions.
Even if government agencies shut down an infrastructure provider, as is common in, say, Turkmenistan, you can simply migrate your server to another one.
Bypass DPI systems
If you are setting up a server from within a country with a high level of censorship, this segment is for you. At every stage of operation, Amnezia Self-hosted:
- Mimics a standard connection and allows switching between protocols. UDPUser Datagram Protocol — a protocol used in situations where a small loss of transmitted data is negligible, TCP, QUIC, and many others — the choice is yours; there will always be something the censors did not think of.
- Adds special tags from the connection description to the traffic to make it inconspicuous to DPI systems.
- Redirects DPI systems to a legitimate website like
microsoft.comif it detects that they are scanning the traffic.
Among other things, Amnezia Self-hosted, just like Premium, allows you to configure split tunneling to direct traffic to specific resources through dedicated channels. This way, you don’t have to constantly turn the VPN on and off to access the resources you want, or sacrifice data protection.
How to Use
With Amnezia Self-hosted, your possibilities are limited only by your tasks and imagination.
- A closed media project to promote privacy? Easy.
- A personal file repository with a password known only to you, but accessible from any computer in the world due to the intricacies of Tor? Why not.
- A learning project to compare VPN protocols for a computer networks lab? Knowledge is power.
How to Install
Amnezia Self-hosted is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, as well as Keenetic and OpenWRT-based routers.
Despite the wide range of features, to start using the service, you only need the Amnezia VPN application and your VPS. We have a detailed guide so you can launch your own VPN in two clicks. You can purchase a VPS through our Amnezia Hosting service — we will cover it down the line in this article.
